Ozone boosts Kool Kountry's quality

Mar 21, 2007 10:14 AM

Kool Kountry Cold Storage has deployed Novazone’s ozone-based cold storage system to reduce decay, control ripening, and advance food safety. The system is being used to enhance fresh produce including tree fruit, table grapes, kiwi fruit, and Asian pears.

Novazone’s cold storage system delivers consistent and precise concentrations of ozone gas, a form of electrified oxygen, which allows Kool Kountry to effectively kill and control the spread of microorganisms such as mold and bacteria in the air and on exposed surfaces. In this environment, ozone is also effective in naturally controlling the ripening process by efficiently converting ethylene into carbon dioxide and water vapor. Regulating the ripening process in this manner ensures longer storage and shelf life, while maintaining better fruit quality.
