FreshDirect, the online fresh food grocery and delivery service, is the first United States online retailer to offer certified sustainable seafood. The firm is now recognized as supplying Alaskan salmon, Pacific halibut, and Pacific sablefish, certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

Using the MSC’s criteria, third-party auditors verified that FreshDirect is a strong link in the MSC’s certified Chain of Custody, which indicates its business practices guarantee sustainable seafood authenticity.

Besides the certified fish now offered, FreshDirect plans to add varieties to its sustainable lineup in the near future.
