Aug 30, 2012 12:07 PM

Choptank Transport has announced its new membership with “Healthiest Maryland Businesses.” This initiative is a statewide social marketing campaign to create a culture of wellness at the workplace and is headed by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

“As an employer aiming to achieve and maintain a healthy workforce, this initiative is a perfect fit for what we are trying to accomplish at Choptank Transport,” said Pam Hutchinson, human resources director at the company. “We currently offer a smoke-free workplace, free blood-pressure screenings, employee message days, biggest loser contests, and a health and fitness center on the premises.”

The Wellness Councils of America outlines seven elements of a comprehensive worksite health promotion. They are:

•Health education

•Supportive social and physical environments

•Integration of the worksite program into an organization’s structure

•Linkage to related programs like Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and programs to help employees balance work and family

•Worksite screening programs ideally linked to medical care to ensure follow-up and appropriate treatment as necessary

•Follow-up interventions that support individual behavioral change

•Evaluation and improvement processes to help enhance the program’s effectiveness and efficiency

Preston MD-based Choptank Transport is a third-party logistics provider specializing in truckload and less-than-truckload transportation of general freight. It also specializes in transporting perishable and on-time sensitive commodities.
