Refrigerated carrier C R England has selected the Thermo King Precedent trailer platform for its fleet in an exclusive three-year agreement.

The Precedent is a new trailer temperature control platform, built to deliver double-digit fuel savings, superior performance, and lower life cycle costs. Thermo King, a manufacturer of temperature control systems and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, unveiled the Precedent in June 2012.

C R England will implement systems that include the S-600 Precedent, which is a greater-than-25-horsepower single-temperature unit. This environmentally sensitive unit provides indefinite useful life in California. The company will use the S-600 in both traditional over-the-road applications—and by adding specific option packages, in intermodal and rail applications.

“The Precedent is our refrigeration unit of choice to meet the new more stringent emission standards,” said Corey England, executive vice-president of C R England. “It complements our sustainability initiatives, and we love that it is evergreen from the start. Besides the sustainability benefits, the dramatic fuel savings, reduced maintenance costs, and possibility for trade cycle adjustment, helped seal the deal.”

The Precedent is designed to be fully compliant with the new EPA Tier IV final regulations that take effect January 1, 2013. These units provide a range of options including:

•The S-600, a greater-than-25-hp single-temperature unit with an evergreen engine for use in California

•The S-700, a greater-than-25-hp high-capacity single-temperature unit with an evergreen engine for use in California

•The C-600, a less-than-25-hp single-temperature unit with an allowed useful life in California of seven years

The Precedent platform features a new Diesel Direct Electric (DDE) architecture to deliver tighter temperature control and double-digit fuel savings in real-world applications.
