Feb 1, 2008 12:00 PM

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has presented Olathe KS-based TransAm Trucking Inc an Environmental Excellence Award for its role in conserving energy and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. TransAm, a refrigerated truckload carrier, trimmed its carbon dioxide emissions by 13,000 tons in the past year, according to the EPA.

Formed in October 1987 in Kansas City MO, TransAm initially had 70 tractors and 100 refrigerated trailers. The company moved to Olathe in 1990. In 2001, it added a dedicated fleet based in North Carolina that currently operates 100-plus power units, and in 2005, TransAm expanded to the Dallas TX area, opening a terminal and adding another 250 power units. TransAm now has more than 1,000 power units.
