Mississippi governor pays homage to KLLM drivers, makes Family Day even more special

Dec 1, 2007 12:00 PM

Mississippi Gov Haley Barbour issued a proclamation declaring Oct 13, 2007 as “KLLM Driver Day.” The proclamation was part of the company's annual Family Day celebration and also helped to honor three exceptional KLLM drivers.

As part of the festivities, drivers Bill Fambro, Steve Jones, and Tim Gillette were presented with framed letters from Gov Barbour, honoring their accomplishments in the Mississippi Truck Driving Championships earlier in 2007. All three drivers placed first in their respective categories and advanced to the national competition.

KLLM's Family Day is an annual event that brings together all the firm's employees and drivers, as well as their families, for food, fellowship, and fun. It takes place on the grounds of the company's main terminal in Richland MS.

Aside from the governor's contributions, the main event was the Employee Olympics, where different departments compete against each other for a year's bragging rights. Despite an animated entrance by the 2006 champions, the maintenance department turned in a stellar performance taking home first-place honors.

For the children of KLLM, there was face painting, a super-size jumpy slide, Inky the Clown, a MoonWalk, and contests with prizes.

Close to 1,200 people joined in the festivities for 2007.
