KLLM drivers receive championship laurels

Oct 1, 2008 12:00 PM

KLLM Transport Services announced that four of its drivers were top award winners at the Mississippi Trucking Association's Truck Driving Championships held recently in Tupelo MS. Receiving awards were:

  • Paul Brownlee, first place — four-axle
  • Troy Bernard, second place — five-axle
  • Ricky Bowe, second place — three-axle
  • Harold Sowers, second place — flatbed?

As a first place winner, Brownlee advances to the National Truck Driving Championship.

The purpose of the driving competition is to improve safety by promoting, encouraging, and rewarding safe and responsible driving practices. Drivers complete a written examination to test their knowledge of the industry, driving rules, first aid, and other key subjects. Drivers then complete field-testing to measure their ability to identify safety defects in equipment. Lastly, drivers maneuver tractor-trailers through obstacles to test their ability to operate safely in close quarters.

The Mississippi Truck Driving Championship was held at the Lee County Agricultural Complex in Tupelo. This year's national event will be held in August at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston TX.
