JBS plus Swift & Co equals meat colossus

Oct 1, 2007 12:00 PM

JBS SA, a leading Latin American beef processor, has completed the acquisition of Swift & Co. Swift was acquired from HM Capital Partners LLC, a Dallas TX-based private equity firm, and Booth Creek Management Corp in an all-cash transaction valued at about $1.5 billion. As a result, the consolidated JBS Swift Group will be the largest beef processor in the world.

J P Morgan Securities Inc acted as dealer manager and solicitation agent, and the information agent for tender offers and consent solicitations was D F King & Co Inc.

Greeley CO-based Swift ranks as the world's third-largest processor of fresh beef and pork products. It generates nearly $10 billion in annual sales.

JBS has operations in 23 plants in Brazil and five in Argentina. For the 12-month period ending March 31, 2007, JBS generated sales of nearly $2.1 billion.
