Quaker Maid Meats opens another plant

Oct 1, 2005 12:00 PM

Quaker Maid Meats Inc, a supplier of frozen sandwich steaks and other frozen meat products, has opened its third meat processing plant in Reading PA. The 40,000-square-foot facility will initially employ 20 people, bringing Quaker Maid's total workforce in the city to 140.

Located two blocks from the 45-year-old company's established plants, the building replaces a dilapidated storage warehouse that had been repurposed several times in its earlier life as a factory.

The new plant will be dedicated to producing frozen hamburger patties marketed under the Quaker Maid, Philly Gourmet, and Philly brands. The products are sold in supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and sandwich shops throughout the United States as well as in Bermuda.
