Schneider chooses OnGuard as standard

Jan 25, 2012 9:37 AM

Meritor WABCO announced that Schneider National, a provider of truckload, logistics, and intermodal services, has selected the OnGuard collision safety system as standard equipment for all new Class 8 commercial vehicles in its fleet.

An “always on” collision mitigation system, OnGuard provides vehicles with an active braking system regardless of whether the cruise control is engaged. Meritor WABCO’s SmartTrac stability control system is also standard equipment on Schneider-owned vehicles.

With more than 17,000 units sold and more than 2 billion miles of proven road experience since its industry introduction in 2007, OnGuard assists drivers in recognizing and responding to potentially dangerous driving scenarios that could lead to a rear-end collision.

OnGuard features a forward-looking radar sensor that monitors the distance, speed, and deceleration of a vehicle ahead. If necessary, it alerts the driver to take appropriate action through an in-cab display. If the driver doesn’t immediately decelerate the vehicle in response to a potentially serious rear end situation, the Collision Mitigation System (CMS) integrated within OnGuard automatically de-throttles the engine and provides up to a 50% full service brake application  to help the driver avoid or reduce the severity of a rear-end collision.
