TCA Scholarship Fund
resistant to recession

Mar 12, 2009 9:25 AM

Even though the economy has been in a recession, the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is continuing to help students associated with the truckload industry by awarding scholarships up to $5,000 per year to college junior and seniors. The association has been doing this since 1973.

Thanks to a $150,000 endowment to the TCA Scholarship Fund from the National Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT), a live auction at the recent TCA annual convention, and other support, the fund now stands at nearly $200,000.

Founded in 1981, NAIT supports the needs of independent contractor small-business owners in the trucking industry.

"There is nothing better for the human spirit than to do something for others," outgoing TCA chairman Ray Haight of MacKinnon Transport said in announcing the fund’s status.
