Permalogic Selector System
for reefer trailers, liftgates

Aug 29, 2009 1:59 PM

Phillips has released its Permalogic Selector System designed specifically for fleets using refrigerated trailers and liftgates.

A common problem many of these fleets are experiencing is that the liftgate batteries do not recharge quickly enough to provide a full day’s worth of deliveries. The cost of a non-functioning liftgate can be expensive and make it difficult to maintain an on-time delivery schedule.

The Permalogic Selector System is integrated into a sealed junction box at the nose of the trailer. A dual-pole socket is used to pull power directly from the truck batteries along with a direct connection from the reefer batteries. By sensing the source of power with the most charging capacity, the Permalogic Selector System directs the charge to a DC-to-DC converter, which boosts the voltage to 14.4 volts. This accelerates the charging process between deliveries to ensure the liftgate has sufficient power at the next stop.

This system also works on a reefer trailer when it is staged for transfer, or not connected to a truck. By drawing power from the running reefer unit every time it cycles on, liftgate batteries get a frequent recharge to assure they are operational the next time the liftgate is used.

The Permalogic Selector System is available to buy as individual components, or as a kit. Included in the kit is the Permalogic Selector nose box with a dual-pole socket, a Trailcharger (DC-to-DC converter), a reefer harness, and an installation manual. In addition, Phillips offers Trailcharger harnesses in 30-, 40-, and 50-foot lengths to fit virtually any trailer liftgate battery configuration.
