Tire Management Systems
Oct 1, 2007 12:00 PM
This showcase is focused on tire management systems for commercial vehicles. Besides primarily monitoring tire pressure, systems are provided that can automatically inflate tires, along with products that help eliminate tire vibration and abnormal wear.
Products halt tire vibration, erratic wear
Tru-Balance Truck Wheel Centering Products' patented line is designed to eliminate the problem of tire vibration and erratic tire wear. With hub-piloted wheels, gravity causes the weight of the wheel to rest on the upper pilots, which creates a gap at the bottom pilots. Even the smallest of gaps results in an egg-shaped motion upon rotation. This uneven motion creates tire vibration and all that goes with it. Tru-Balance products bypass the hub pilots and center the wheel to the wheel studs. This creates the true center of the wheel and eliminates the uneven gap which eliminates the tire vibration.
Benefits of these products include:
Reduces rolling resistance of tires
Increases fuel mileage and tire life
Dramatically decreases tire vibration and erratic tire wear
Cuts rebalancing costs
Decreases tire maintenance
Reduces “wheel off” condition and tire cupping

MA-TPMS serves as sentinel for tire safety
Mobile Awareness has released a new generation of TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) products geared toward commercial trucks, utility vehicles, RVs, and trailers.
The MA-TPMS series automatically and continuously monitors tire status, warning the driver of abnormal conditions with an audible alert and LCD display indicator. This system not only warns of low-pressure and high-pressure levels, but it also monitors hazardous tire temperature conditions. All three warning settings are programmable by the user.
Based on the latest wireless sensor technology, the MA-TPMS series offers several advantages. For example, the tires do not require removal and remounting during installation of the sensor. These rugged and miniature valve-stem sensor transmitters are externally mounted. The design enables the air in the tire to be refilled directly through the built-in valve stem, without removing the device. The result is a low-maintenance system that offers an estimated battery life of seven to 10 years.

Tiremaax CP tire inflation system debuts
Hendrickson Trailer Suspension Systems introduces Tiremaax CP (Constant Pressure), a new configuration of its automatic tire inflation system for trailers.
With the launch of Tiremaax CP, the original Tiremaax name becomes Tiremaax EC (Electronic Control). Tiremaax CP features a simple mechanical design, while Tiremaax EC provides full system programming and monitoring. These patented systems draw from the trailer air supply to help keep trailer tires properly inflated and rolling smoothly.
Tiremaax CP continually checks tire pressure without pressurizing the axle or wheel ends and employs a pneumatic controller to direct air to tires that fall below a preset pressure level. A signal light illuminates only when attention is required to alert the operator of tire or system leaks.
With no electronics, transducers, or pressure switches, Tiremaax CP is easy to maintain. It requires no special tools to adjust tire pressure settings and operates on either 12- or 24-volt electrical systems.
All Tiremaax units feature bolt-in, ball-bearing rotary unions; braided stainless steel axle hoses; axle ventilation systems with patented axle filters, and seals designed to handle extreme temperature ranges. Braided stainless steel tire hoses, heavy-duty T-fittings, and steel T-fitting guards provide durability. To help prevent wheel-end contamination, Tiremaax uses internal supply lines without pressurizing the axle.
