Compact starter saves truck weight

Mar 1, 2006 12:00 PM

DENSO Sales California, an affiliate of Japan-based Denso Corporation, announced availability of its 12V 5.0 offset gear reduction starter. The unit is designed for heavy-duty vehicles with 10- to 16-liter diesel engines.

Specifications for the new Denso starter are as follows:

  • 12V 5.0 kW.

  • Weight of approximately 23 pounds.

  • Pinion: DP6 10-tooth and M3 12-tooth (interchangeable with competitors' 11- and 12-tooth units).

  • Clockwise rotation.

  • SAE #3 mount.

The compact and lightweight design of the new offset gear reduction starter makes installation easy and helps reduce total vehicle weight. High torque maximizes starting power and improves cold starting.

Slow rotating engagement improves the durability of the pinion and ring gear. The needle bearing in-drive housing allows for long-life operation of the vehicle.
