Dana facility wins NQI Canada award

Dana Corp's Spicer Driveshaft Canada facility in Magog, Quebec, has received the National Quality Institute (NQI) Canada Quality Award of Excellence. Dana is the only company to have three operations receive the award in the past two years. In 2001, Dana's Structural Solutions Division and its Spicer Driveshaft facility in Thorold, Ontario, received the award.

The Magog facility was recognized for its efforts toward its overall business system, which is driven by a team atmosphere with initiatives focused on environmental improvements. NQI examiners were also impressed with the level of deployment in the facility's suggestion program, with all employees having immediate access to idea submittal. The program has generated 3,260 ideas this year — or 20 ideas per person — with an 88.6% implementation rate.

Established in 1988, the facility employs nearly 162 people and achieved its ISO 14001 registration seven months after program implementation. The award will be presented Oct 22, 2002, at the annual Canada Award for Excellence Gala Ceremony at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto.
