Cummins has new ISM rating

Mar 1, 2004 12:00 PM

Cummins Inc has a new rating for its 11-liter ISM engine. A new ISM 425V vocational rating, with 425 horsepower and 1,550-ft-lb peak torque, has been released for severe-service markets. It will be available in International 5000i and 7000 Series vehicles.

ISM engines feature the patented Cummins Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VG Turbo) by Holset, that constantly adjusts airflow based on several factors, including engine load, altitude, and temperature. Because the VG Turbo has only one moving part in the hot exhaust stream, it is more reliable and durable than turbo designs that use flexible vanes with dozens of wear points and moving parts.

The new 425V is covered by Cummins Uptime Guarantee, like all Cummins ISM and ISX engines. With the guarantee, Cummins will reimburse the customer for up to three days' truck rental for any failure on an ISM or ISX engine that cannot be repaired within 24 hours. The Uptime Guarantee was introduced in August 2002.
