Western Star offers new engine, daycab kit

Oct 1, 2008 12:00 PM

Western Star Truck announced the availability of the Detroit Diesel DD15 engine and a daycab conversion kit to replace the Stratosphere sleeper.

The DD15, a six-cylinder, in-line powerplant, is offered in models from 455 to 560 hp and 1,550 to 1,850 lb ft torque. Tailored to North America's EPA 2007 diesel engine emissions regulations, it will use BlueTec selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to meet EPA 2010 standards.

With the new conversion kit, Western Star Stratosphere sleepers can be converted into daycab tractors. The kit includes a new overhead console, roof cap with reinforcements, headliner, back wall and trim panel, cantrails, and glass for the rear window.

Also new from Western Star is a line of premium stainless steel accessories, including fenders, bumpers, and sun visors. Manufactured using the highest grade of non-magnetic 304 stainless steel, the accessories contain a highly corrosion-resistant property that protects against the extremely corrosive anti-icing agents used on roads today.
