MTIS aids trailers with aerodynamic skirts

Mar 1, 2009 12:00 PM

Pressure Systems International recommends adding the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) by PSI to trailers outfitted with aerodynamic skirts.

Most trailer skirts work aerodynamically by covering the tire, so the skirt must be removed to manually check tires for leaks, other damage, or to be sure they are properly inflated. This can take additional labor hours.

Since MTIS automatically maintains proper inflation at all times and sends a warning when a tire is being unreasonably filled with air due to some damage, the skirt only needs to be removed when a tire actually needs to be repaired or replaced, said a Pressure Systems official.

Because trailer tires always maintain proper inflation with MTIS, on-the-road blowouts, which can damage the skirt, are eliminated.
