Class 8 net order retreat mostly seasonal July 2010’s net orders of 11,667 heavy-duty Class 8 commercial vehicles was 27% below June, but was still up 27% from July 2009, according to ACT Research Co. In the latest release of the State of the Industry: Classes 5-8 Vehicles, ACT further reported net orders of medium-duty Classes 5-7 equipment rose both month-to-month and year-over-year. Compared with July 2009, medium-duty net orders were up 100%.

“Normal seasonality accounted for about a third of the month-to-month decline in Class 8 net orders,” said Kenny Vieth, partner and senior analyst with ACT. “The momentum in Class 8 demand is still increasing as trucking company profitability continues to rebound strongly.”
