International Truck and Engine Corp has delivered the first production ProStar to US Foodservice, indicating that delivery of its new flagship aerodynamic Class 8 tractor has begun. As part of ceremonies at International’s Chatham, Ontario, manufacturing plant, officials gave the vehicle’s keys to Bernie Cassetori, vice-president of US Foodservice.
Though this is the first delivery of the ProStar, the tractor has been produced at the Chatham facility since January 29.
This plant, once set to be shut down, was reinvigorated by its leaders, employees, Canadian officials, the Canadian Auto Union, and a $270 million modernization that included a total assembly line reconfiguration. More than 100 ProStar tractors per day in two shifts are expected to be manufactured at full production.
US Foodservice, a leading International customer, has more than 27,000 employees and operates 70 distribution centers across America.
