May 1, 2004 12:00 PM

Freightliner LLC plans to increase production and add about 300 full-time employees at its St Thomas, Ontario, Canada truck manufacturing plant. These employees will work a three-day weekend shift, Friday through Sunday. The company intends to begin hiring for the new positions immediately.

The St Thomas plant currently employs 1,200 people and operates two full production shifts with the day shift working Monday through Friday and the evening shift working a 4×10 schedule. Production, maintenance, quality assurance, and material handling employees are represented by the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW).

Since 1998, the St Thomas plant has produced Sterling-brand trucks and now builds heavy- and medium-duty vehicles including the Sterling A-Line, L-Line, and Acterra.
