Model 379X production will end in December

May 1, 2004 12:00 PM

PETERBILT'S special edition Model 379X — a show ready, polished aluminum-on-chrome truck introduced specifically for owner-operators — will roll down the assembly line for the last time in December. Peterbilt officials announced the decision during a March 24 press conference at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

“The Model 379X's impact on the marketplace has been incredible,” said Dan Sobic, Peterbilt general manager and PACCAR vice-president. “Since its introduction, the Model 379X has fully lived up to our expectations. Customers are passionate about owning it, so much so that the customers who own the first one ever produced — Jerry and Ronda Diemoz of J & R Trucking — also want to own the last one to be produced.

“We want to end the Model 379X's run to truly emphasize its special-edition status in Peterbilt's product history.”

Peterbilt introduced the Model 379X during the 2003 Mid-America Trucking Show and began production of the vehicle in September of that year.

The Model 379X features unique styling and exclusive design elements that incorporate the special edition themes throughout the interior and exterior. Among the exterior features of the Model 379X are:

  • Unique, polished aluminum fenders

  • Polished aluminum centerline hood trim

  • Coordinating, punched “Peterbilt oval” grille and air cleaner intake screen

  • Polished aluminum grille bars

  • Seven-inch chromed exhaust stacks

  • LED auxiliary lighting for the cab, sleeper, air cleaner and rear light-bar assembly

  • Chromed Texas-style bumper

  • Extended stainless steel sunvisor

  • Model 379X special edition logos on each side of the sleeper

The Model 379X is equipped with a 70-inch Unibilt UltraCab. Among the interior features of the Model 379X are:

  • Brushed aluminum dash panels

  • Coordinating brushed aluminum cab and sleeper trim

  • A stylized, four-spoke, “X-style” steering wheel

  • Custom leather UltraRide seats

  • Chromed shift lever, knob and base plate with the Model 379X logo

  • Charcoal cabinetry and interior trim
