Supreme moves Murphy body production

Jun 1, 2003 12:00 PM

Supreme Corp has moved production of its Murphy refrigerated body line to Goshen IN.

The company decided to continue to produce the line because customers were concerned about not being able to purchase a Murphy body because of the Wilson NC plant closure. Supreme is currently producing Murphy Walk-In, Retail (milk truck), and Reach-In models at its corporate facility in Goshen.

Supreme closed its Wilson plant in the fourth quarter of 2002, leaving the future of the Murphy line in question. Overcapacity was cited as the main reason for the closure, but Supreme also believed it could combine efficiencies and control quality better from the Goshen facility.

The transition of the Murphy technology to Goshen has been successful. Rob Armstrong, president of Monroe Dairy in East Providence RI, who recently purchased Murphy retail delivery trucks, said, “Supreme has taken the Murphy technology and made it even better. I believe Supreme will continue to provide the same quality and workmanship.”
