As the East Coast struggles to recover from the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, AdvancePierre Foods—a supplier of protein and handheld convenience meal items—is helping the relief efforts. The company donated 3,591 cases of food to Long Island’s Island Harvest, which will provide more than 40,000 meals to residents in need.

“We are grateful for the services that Island Harvest is providing to New York hurricane victims and want to support their relief efforts,” said Bill Toler, president and chief executive officer of AdvancePierre Foods. “We hope this product donation will allow Island Harvest and its affiliates to provide warm meals to families who need them most.”

AdvancePierre’s donation includes breaded chicken fingers; Asian- and Italian-style appetizers; and a variety of Cordon Bleu, broccoli and cheese, and wild rice stuffed chicken breast entrees. Island Harvest will provide the donated items to shelters and soup kitchens across Long Island.

“During our visits to the hurricane-stricken areas we’ve seen such devastation, but through it all we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest.

J Kings Food Service Professionals, based in Holtsville NY, is storing the products at its Polar Crossing cold storage facility in Bohemia NY. The company stores food for relief organizations at Polar Crossing and its Grapes and Greens facility in Calverton NY.

AdvancePierre Foods makes and distributes a full line of packaged sandwiches, fully cooked chicken and beef products, Philly-style steak, stuffed chicken breasts, and bakery products. Headquartered in Cincinnati OH, the firm employs 4,500 people and has operations in Ohio, Oklahoma, Iowa, Maine, and North and South Carolina.
