Baldor completes Merex
Food Corp. asset purchase

Nov 14, 2008 8:26 AM

Baldor Specialty Foods Inc. has completed the asset purchase of Merex Food Corp., a produce importer for the North American market. The Bon Campo line, once exclusive to Merex, is now overseen by Baldor’s IPEX (International Produce Exchange) division. IPEX is Baldor’s worldwide, offshore network of farmers, marketers, and distributors working together to grow, package, and export produce to U.S. shores.

The HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points)-accredited Fresh Cuts division of Baldor has assumed complete packaging of the entire Bon Campo line. Providing customers with varied products, the Bon Campo line includes such items as sun-dried tomatoes, porcini mushrooms, potatoes, shallots, and pearl onions.

Baldor recently relocated to a 200,000-square-foot "green" facility in the Hunts Point area of the Bronx NY. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the firm meets all regulatory labeling requirements including the new COOL (County of Origin Labeling).
