with Super Bowl fare

When US military forces serving in Afghanistan watch the New England Patriots and New York Giants battle it out in this year’s Super Bowl, thanks to the efforts of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), they can enjoy a variety of American home-style finger foods.

Items on the menu include: thousands of pounds of mozzarella cheese sticks, jalapeno poppers, chicken mini-bites, chicken wings, pork and beef meatballs, turkey wings, pizza, french fries, onion rings, chili, potato chips—and non-alcoholic beer to wash it all down.

DLA Troop Support employees began planning for the Super Bowl meal in June 2011.

“We take pride in providing deployed service members with memorable meals for special occasions,” said Navy Rear Admiral David Baucom, DLA Troop Support commander. “It can certainly be a morale booster for those serving in Afghanistan to savor a taste of home while watching one of America’s most celebrated sporting events.”

DLA Troop Support, headquartered in Philadelphia PA, has a dedicated team committed to guaranteeing that soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines around the world have quality nutritious meals daily.

As a Department of Defense combat support agency, DLA provides the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, other federal agencies, and joint and allied forces with a variety of logistics, acquisition, and technical services. The agency sources and provides nearly 100% of consumable items America’s military forces need to operate, from food, fuel and energy, to uniforms, medical supplies, and construction and barrier equipment. DLA also supplies more than 80% of the military’s spare parts.

Fort Belvoir VA-based DLA has about 27,000 employees worldwide and supports nearly 2,200 weapon systems. For more information, go to www.dla.mil.
