A consortium of Mexican tomato growers and the US Department of Commerce signed a new agreement March 4 that will govern the import of fresh Mexican-grown tomatoes into the United States.

This new accord extends a suspension agreement that has, since 1996, provided the framework by which the Mexican growers exported their tomatoes to the US market.

The participating Mexican groups are:

•Confederacion de Asociaciones Agrícolas del Estado de Sinaloa AC (CAADES)

•Consejo Agrícola de Baja California AC (CABC)

•Asociación Mexicana de Horticultura Protegida AC (AMHPAC)

•Union Agricola Regional de Sonora Productores de Hortalizas Frutas y Legumbres (UARS)

•Confederacion Nacional de Productores de Hortalizas (CNPH)
