Real Tomatoes earn Purfresh seal

Aug 1, 2008 12:00 PM

Lucky's Real Tomatoes and Pro-Health have received the Quality by Purfresh seal in recognition of leadership initiatives and processes implemented to optimize the freshness, quality, and safety of their products while reducing the use, residue, and disposal of traditional chemicals.

Purfresh, a global provider of clean science-based solutions to purify, protect, and preserve the world's food and water supply, awards its seal to “acknowledge customers who demonstrate exceptional quality standards in order to distinguish their products in the marketplace and encourage high standards in the produce industry.”

Pro-Health and Lucky's Real Tomatoes are the first two produce companies to earn the Quality by Purfresh seal.

They process and store their produce using Purfresh's organic ozone-based technology that kills pathogens on contact — in water and in the air; controls and monitors ambient storage conditions to prevent mold growth; and protects produce without chemicals — eliminating the need for multiple dipping steps and reducing hazardous disposal.

Lucky's Real Tomatoes is a Brooklyn, New York-based tomato grower and distributor. Carrollton, Texas-based Pro-Health grows and distributes many varieties of potatoes.
