May 6, 2011 9:48 AM

US Foodservice has purchased Cerniglia Products, a distributor of Italian specialty foods to the southern Wisconsin market. The company, currently based in Middleton WI, will become part of the US Foodservice–Milwaukee division. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Vito Cerniglia, former owner of Cerniglia Products, will join US Foodservice–Milwaukee as a consultant.

“Vito Cerniglia and his team joining US Foodservice will dramatically enhance our ability to serve the growing Italian and Mediterranean restaurant markets,” said Tim Hart, division president, US Foodservice–Milwaukee. “This acquisition gives US Foodservice–Milwaukee customers access to Cerniglia’s broad selection of Italian specialty foods, and Cerniglia customers now have access to more than 9,000 US Foodservice national brand and private label products.”

US Foodservice provides more than 350,000 national brand products and its own private label items, ranging from meats to produce to frozen foods. The company has about 25,000 employees in more than 60 locations nationwide. Headquartered in Rosemont IL, it is jointly owned by funds managed by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. Learn more at www.usfoodservice.com.
