Feb 23, 2011 10:18 AM

US Foodservice, the Rosemont IL-based foodservice distributor, has purchased Midway Produce Inc, an Indianapolis IN-based produce distributor serving restaurants, healthcare facilities, schools, and other business and industry customers throughout central Indiana.

This acquisition will complement the US Foodservice–Indianapolis division’s selection of fresh produce and enable more frequent deliveries to clients requiring specialty produce products. The acquisition will also provide Midway’s customers with access to US Foodservice’s full line of national brand products and private label items.

Founded in 1999, Midway Produce is led by Harry Marx, who will serve as produce manager for US Foodservice–Indianapolis. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

US Foodservice offers more than 350,000 national brand products and its own private label items, ranging from meats to produce to frozen foods. The company employs approximately 25,000 associates in more than 60 locations nationwide. It is jointly owned by funds managed by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
