FPL Food to expand
South Carolina plant

Privately owned FPL Food LLC will invest $4.29 million to reopen a food plant in West Columbia SC, according to the South Carolina Commerce Department. This reopening of the former Carolina Culinary Foods plant by the August GA-based firm will create 100 jobs, the department said.

OSI Group of Aurora IL, which had been owner of the West Columbia facility, shut the a 75,000-square-foot plant in December. 2008. In 2000, the site had more than 150 employees, a number that shrank to about 75 before the plant was closed.

Upon completion of this expansion, FPL Food anticipates having around 800 employees in Augusta and Columbia SC. Positions to be filled are already being advertised at the firm’s website, www.fplfood.com.

Established in 1966, FPL produces pre-seasoned frozen beef patties, pre-cooked roast beef, pre-seasoned ground beef, corned beef hash, and marinated beefsteak tips.
