California-based Stater Brothers Supermarkets has presented a check for $2,123,133.50 to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. This check included money donated by the company, its customers, and employees.

All contributions will immediately be used by the American Red Cross to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast states.

All 161 Stater Bros markets accepted donations September 1–18 to support relief efforts. Customers contributed by adding a monetary amount to their checkout total or by dropping off checks payable to the American Red Cross.

In addition, Stater Bros partnered with California television stations CBS-2 and KCAL-9 in a two-day fund-raiser September 1–2. This fund-raiser added about $1,000,000 to the money raised by Stater Bros.
