Labor dispute erodes Stater Bros' totals

Stater Bros Holdings Inc announced financial results for the 13-week fiscal second quarter and 26-week year-to-date period ended March 27, 2005. The 161-store supermarket chain's results were affected by the Southern California supermarket labor dispute.

Sales for the quarter ended March 27, 2005, decreased 14.8% to $842.9 million, compared with $989.4 million for the same period in 2004. Total sales for the 26 weeks ended March 27, 2005, fell 16.6% to $1.682 billion versus $2.016 billion for the same period in 2004.

The company reported net income of $3.6 million for the 2005 second quarter, compared with $30.2 million for the 2004 second quarter. Net income for the fiscal year-to-date periods totaled $6.9 million in 2005 and $64.7 million in 2004.
