Ingles tallies top-shelf totals in fiscal 2Q

Ingles Markets Inc reported both sales and earnings increases for its fiscal second quarter ended March 27, 2004, over the comparable 2003 period.
Net income for the 2004 second quarter rose to $7.2 million, compared with $1.8 million for the 2003 quarter. For the March 2004 six-month period, net income climbed to $9.0 million versus $5.0 million for the March 2003 six-month period.
Net sales for the 2004 second quarter advanced 6.5% over the March 2003 quarter. For the six months ended March 27, 2004, net sales grew 7.2% over the 2003 period.
Based in Asheville NC, Ingles operates 197 supermarkets in six southeastern states.
