Spartan Stores Inc, the Grand Rapids MI-based grocery distributor, reported financial results for its 12-week fiscal 2006 second quarter ended Sept 10, 2005.

Second-quarter net earnings from continuing operations were $7.1 million, compared with $7.1 million in the corresponding period a year earlier. Consolidated net sales of $485.5 million for the fiscal 2006 second quarter were comparable to fiscal 2005's second quarter total of $486.7 million as sales increases in the distribution segment were offset by the sale and closure of three retail stores and the effect of new retail store competition.
