SuperValu registers sales, earnings gains

SuperValu Inc, the Minneapolis MN-based grocery retailer, has reported results for the second quarter of fiscal 2004, which ended Sept 6, 2003. The company reported net sales of $4.6 billion compared with $4.3 billion a year ago. Net earnings totaled $62.2 million versus $58.8 million a year earlier.

For the first 28 weeks of fiscal 2004, the company tallied net sales of $10.4 billion compared with $10.0 billion for the same period a year ago. Net earnings were $135.9 million versus $136.0 million one year earlier.
