Nov 1, 2005 12:00 PM

Tops Markets, a Buffalo NY-based unit of Ahold USA, has sold 12 of its New York supermarkets in the Adirondacks to New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers, which is Tops' supplier. Terms of this transaction were not available.

The markets are scheduled to change ownership starting in mid-February 2006.

There are 137 Tops stores remaining in New York and northeast Ohio after this sale. One of four retail operating firms under Ahold USA, Tops is a division of Ahold's Giant Food Stores.

C&S, which distributes groceries to 4,000 independent supermarkets and supermarket chains, owns more than 50 warehouses.
