Weis Markets sees sales, income inch up

Weis Markets Inc said its first-quarter 2004 sales advanced 2.3% to $520.7 million, and net income rose 2.9% to $16.2 million compared with the year before.
During the 13-week period ending March 27, 2004, the company's basic and diluted earnings per share were up 3.4% to $.60 per share. Its comparable store sales climbed 3.0%.
Founded in 1912, Weis operates 158 stores in six states: Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and West Virginia.
