Whole Foods casts its net a little farther

Whole Foods Market Inc, which owns and operates a seafood processing and distribution facility, has expanded into a triangle of geographically strategic seafood centers. The Austin TX-based supermarket chain:

¥Acquired Select Fish, a Seattle WA-based distributor and processor of fresh and frozen sustainable seafood. The 12,000-square-foot facility has between 40 and 65 employees

¥Opened the Whole Foods Market South Seafood Distribution Facility, another 12,000-sq-ft operation in the company's Atlanta GA grocery distribution center. John Bowler, facility coordinator and South regional team leader, will head this site.

¥Continues to operate its wholly owned waterfront seafood processing center, Pigeon Cove, in Gloucester MA. Run by founder Steve Parkes, this plant has a nearly 12,000-sq-ft capacity.
