Savi extends RFID to key Asian ports

Jan 31, 2006 9:30 AM, from staff and wire reports

Savi Networks, operator of the RFID-enhanced global information service for container shipments, announced that SaviTrak information services are now fully operational at major port facilities in Asia.

The SaviTrak information service that enables automated tracking, management, and security is now commercially available at two of the world’s busiest ocean terminals—Hong Kong and Shenzhen (China).

The company plans to announce more “live” trade lanes throughout Asia, Europe, and South America soon. It recently announced partner agreements with United States terminal operators Marine Terminals Corp (MTC) and Trans Pacific Container Service Corp (TraPac), which own and operate terminals across the US West and south Atlantic coasts.

The core RFID networking technology has been used to track and manage more than two million shipments worldwide. A web-based information service, SaviTrak provides automated alerts and reporting on the location and status of containerized shipments and their contents.
