PrePass truck enrollment reaches new high

Jun 27, 2012 9:19 AM

More than 426,000 commercial motor carriers have enrolled  in the PrePass weigh station safety screening system, bringing participation to  an all-time high.

“The recent growth in participation by motor carriers is  a testament to bottom line safety and economic benefits carriers receive,” said  Richard A Clasby, president and chief executive officer of HELP Inc, the  PrePass service provider. “To date, carriers have saved more than 41 million  hours of driver time, nearly 200 million gallons of fuel, and operating savings  of $3.3 billion.”

PrePass is the nation’s largest truck safety e-screening  program. Qualified motor carriers may electronically comply with state weight,  safety, and credential requirements at 301 locations in 31 states while  bypassing sites at highway speed.

Participation in PrePass is voluntary. To be eligible,  carriers meet minimum state-established safety and credential requirements.  Carriers pay a monthly service fee of about $17. More than 90% of the nation’s  top 100 for-hire carriers and thousands of private fleets and owner-operators  are saving time, money, and fuel with PrePass.

PrePass and its electronic toll collection companion  service are operational at weigh stations and/or toll plazas in 38 states:  Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia,  Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland,  Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New  Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina,  Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia,  Wisconsin, and Wyoming. PrePass enables states to meet federal CVISN  requirements.
