Jun 23, 2010 10:26 AM

Spot market freight availability increased by 216% in May 2010 compared with the same month in 2009, according to TransCore’s North American Freight Index. This was the strongest volume for the month of May in at least 10 years, according to the company.

Since January, spot market freight availability has been higher than normal. Freight availability increased in May for dry vans and refrigerated vans in advance of the peak summer season. However, spot freight for flatbeds fell by 15% versus April’s extremely high level.

Brokers, 3PLs, carriers, and owner-operators in North America are on track to list more than 60 million loads and trucks this year across a variety of services feeding TransCore’s DAT Network. As a result of this high volume, TransCore’s North American Freight Index is representative of the ups and downs in spot market freight availability throughout the United States. and Canada.

According to TransCore, the DAT Network sets a standard for load board services in North America by providing:

•The most loads and trucks found on any load board on the Internet or in truckstops.

•The highest number of exclusive loads found on a single load board.

•Quality brokers with the high credit scores and low days-to-pay.
