Orbit One helps agencies respond to storms

Dec 1, 2005 12:00 PM

Orbit One Communications (OOC) has delivered 10,000 satellite transmitters to manage and track assets for federal, state, and private agencies dedicated to the Hurricane Katrina and Rita response efforts in the Gulf Coast region of the United States.

Both the 2004 and 2005 seasons have been noted for storm severity and for the unparalleled deployment of mobile assets owned by several federal, state, and local agencies, such as generators, trailers, heavy machinery, and supply containers. In 2004, OOC demonstrated its OrbiTRAX asset management system by providing total asset visibility for 2,000 mobile assets throughout the storm season and the recovery response, and by recovering 100% of all tagged assets. This year, the company deployed thousands more satellite-based asset tracking units and satellite telephones to agencies responding to damage caused by Katrina and Rita.
