RFID system sharpens cold chain visibility

Apr 1, 2006 12:00 PM

Sensitech is offering ColdStream PTS (Plant-to-Shelf), a RFID-enabled end-to-end cold chain visibility system for retailers and their perishable supply partners.

ColdStream PTS employs an RFID tag embedded in Sensitech's Temp-Tale temperature sensors, which are positioned inside cases or pallet loads of perishable products. They record and store temperature data during each phase of transportation. Equipped with a one-year battery, the RFID tags can accompany a commodity for its entire journey.

Tag data is downloaded to readers within a 300-foot range, then a Windows-based Remote Site Server (RSS) transfers data to a central repository. Information is stored on Sensitech's web-based Cold Chain Visibility Server. Via password-protected selective access, users can analyze their supply chains and obtain greater efficiencies.

With PTS, software lets specified supply chain participants get electronic alerts when products drop outside pre-determined temperature ranges. Firms can also determine trends through use of an archiving application.
