Georgia law requires CDL holders to complete Highway Watch program

A new law in Georgia requires all truck drivers seeking or renewing commercial driver licenses (CDLs) to complete a Highway Watch training program, according to Georgia Motor Trucking Association information.
Drivers will be required to show a Highway Watch identification card or a Highway Watch temporary registration receipt when they apply for a CDL or CDL renewal.
Highway Watch is a program administered by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) under a cooperative agreement with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to train truck drivers, as well as other transportation professionals, to recognize potential safety and security threats. It was established in response to the terrorist attacks on the United States in 2001.
To receive the Highway Watch ID card, drivers will have to complete the free training, which can be done online at www.gmta.org. They also can order training materials and print a temporary Highway Watch ID receipt at the site.
