Portable device monitors trailer temperature

Aug 1, 2007 12:00 PM

Safefreight Technology's new SecurityGuard212 is a wireless tracking and security device that allows fleet operators to monitor and maintain pre-set temperatures in real time, plus oversee trailer location and maintenance schedules.

A compact device, it works with Safefreight's SmartFleet system, wherein security and location information is collected by a portable GPS tracking device. This data is communicated wirelessly by cellular or satellite through the online fleet management application, SmartFleet Manager.

The system allows fleet personnel to immediately identify if perishable cargo is at risk for temperature abuse so they can promptly take preventive action.

SecurityGuard212 is an “exception-based” system that sends alerts when the temperature varies from pre-set temperatures. It can monitor and provide alerts for three different temperature zones within a refrigerated trailer. The device is an alternative to retrofitting a fleet with a permanent fixed-mounted system, the company said.
