The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co Inc (A&P) announced unaudited fiscal 2006 third quarter and year-to-date results for the 12 and 40 weeks ended Dec 2, 2006.

United States sales for the third quarter were $1.54 billion, compared with $1.58 billion in the third quarter a year ago. Net income for the 2006 quarter was $41 million, in contrast to a loss of $71 million in the period a year earlier.

For the 40 weeks year-to-date, US sales totaled $5.2 billion, versus $5.4 billion in 2005. Net income for 2006 year-to-date was $34 million, compared with income of $431.7 million for the same period in 2005.
