Net sales surge, income sags at Birds Eye

Birds Eye Foods Inc, the Rochester NY-based processor of frozen vegetables and other food products, reported net sales of about $211.6 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2005. This is an increase of $5.3 million or 2.6% compared with $206.3 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2004.
Net income for the third quarter of fiscal 2005 was $2.6 million, a decrease of $5.4 million or 67.5% versus $8.0 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2004. Net sales for the nine-month period ended March 26, 2005, were $655.4 million, a gain of $10.9 million or 1.7% compared with $644.5 million for the nine-month period ended March 27, 2004. Net income for the nine-month period ended March 26, 2005, was $19.1 million, a decrease of $4.0 million from the fiscal 2004 period's $23.1 million.
