Cargill beefs up its West Coast presence

Wichita KS-based Cargill Meat Solutions has acquired four California beef companies: Beef Packers Inc, RPM Beef Inc, King-O-Meat Inc, and Fresno Meat Co. These companies will be combined under the name Beef Packers Inc.
A unit of privately held Cargill Inc, Cargill Meat Solutions had announced a preliminary agreement to purchase the firms in September 2005. Ore-Cal Transportation, which was included in that preliminary agreement, will instead be dissolved, according to Cargill.
J B Hunt Transport Services Inc is responsible for Beef Packers Inc's refrigerated transportation, and HR Livestock Transportation Inc will haul cattle for the new entity.
