ConAgra to sell its seafood, cheese lines

Mar 17, 2006 9:02 AM, from staff and wire reports

ConAgra Foods Inc is adding its seafood and cheese lines to the previously announced sale of the packaged food company's refrigerated meats businesses.

Trident Seafoods Corp has signed a definitive agreement to acquire ConAgra's Motley MN-based surimi business that serves both retail and foodservice customers and includes the Louis Kemp brand. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed; the transaction likely will be completed by the end of March. Seatle WA-based Trident is a seafood harvesting, processing, and marketing company.

ConAgra's proposed sale of its cheese lines includes an operation in Mayville WI that employs 150 workers and manufactures Country Line and Swiss Rose products. An affiliated operation with 55 employees in Moonachie NJ handles warehousing, sales, and finance.
